Workshop

“A library is not only a place of both order and chaos; it is also the realm of chance.”
- Alberto Manguel. 『The Library at Night』
The scenes we meet in our neighbors might seem scattered. Yet, as Manguel suggests, such chaos can become a creative act of connection when people weave them together— like constellations in the sky. At Neutinamu Library, materials are developed into theme collections while neighbors weave their moments into relationships by these projects; turning an abandoned patch into community gardens, performing plays with seniors, organizing small festivals, etc. We librarians connect, encourage, and ignite those initiatives by carrying theme collections to those spots like cafés, florists, farms, and pubs.... We call it “Collection Busking”. We invite you to this collective weaving.
Shall we imagine how libraries evolve from temples of books into community platforms. We can’t wait to see the constellations you will draw.

Host

Chagyeong and Gyeonghyeon are librarians at Neutinamu Library, a local library in South Korea that serves as a community platform for all ages. Chagyeong leads the "Citizen’s Collection," weaving social issues into library resources, while Gyeonghyeon fosters community engagement through projects like resource circulation and play-reading groups. Together, they bring the library into everyday life through "Collection Busking" and various local collaborations. In this session, they look forward to joining participants to weave local initiatives and community materials into evolving, meaningful collections.
