Workshop

Experience how local history becomes a living dialogue in this interactive workshop. Since opening in December 2024, the Sakawa Town Library in Kochi, Japan, has been collecting old community photographs to spark intergenerational conversations and create unique works like zines.
Now, we are bringing this archive in motion across borders to Seoul. Working in small groups, you will explore these historical photographs, infer their contexts, and share personal anecdotes or cultural insights they evoke. Then, you will co-craft these shared narratives into 8-page photo-zine, bound using traditional Japanese techniques.
By connecting personal storytelling with digital archives, we aim to transform local historical records into dynamic spaces for cross-cultural and intergenerational co-exploration. Your zines will be shared with the community in Sakawa at a later date, with the hope of gently unsettling what has long felt “familiar” for the residents, opening new avenues for continued dialogue and learning within the community.
