Ignite Talk

Founded in 1370 the city library of Nuremberg today is a vital part of the local community college.
With roughly 1 million books and media it is one of largest libraries in Germany. And constantly reinventing itself. Currently we are reshaping the purpose of our library through highlighting the vast history of the institution itself. By this we not just offer a place to stay and read but rather connecting the people to the history of the library and the city. Through maker spaces, writing lessons, staircase concerts, book fairs and exhibitions – to name just a few common measures – we constantly rethink our library as a public place where people can explore new ideas. These proceedings drive participation in almost every aspect. While also strengthening the core identity of the library as a place to acquire, share and produce knowledge.
