SHAU’s work results from a continuous collaboration between its co-founders, Florian Heinzelmann and Daliana Suryawinata, where ideas are developed collectively rather than individually, creating architecture that reflects a shared vision. Based in Bandung, Indonesia, SHAU delivers performance-driven designs that address both environmental and social challenges. While working on a range of large-scale public and private projects, they are recognised for the Microlibraries series, reimagining public libraries as community spaces within dense urban villages through design and material experiments — from 2,000 reused ice cream buckets to parametrically arranged terracotta shells — to make libraries attractive and accessible to children from lower-income families.
SHAU has received numerous awards, including the Ammodo Award for Social Architecture (2025), ARCASIA Gold Award (2024), Good Design Award Japan (2023), and ArchDaily Building of the Year (2021), among others. Both are Associate Professors in Practice: Florian at the National University of Singapore and Daliana at Monash University Indonesia.
Florian enjoys cycling, whereas Daliana loves a relaxing spa.
